  1. Thanks! Yes I submitted myself. Quite an enjoyable experience overall, though did take considerable time to research and prepare. Certainly cheaper than getting a third party to submit for you. It's the kind of thing that once you've done it once, subsequent submissions will be easy and stress free, as you know what to expect at each stage.
  2. Thanks! Not sure what magnification the grading is done at, but looking at the returned coins after they've had conservation, it's very hard to spot any imperfection with the naked eye.
  3. Had my coins back from NGC. I sent in 29 coins, 28 of which obtained the top grade. Spot the lonely PF69! I'm extremely happy and relieved, I was expecting a few PF70 but not 28 of them 🤣
  4. Thankfully, all 4 graded PF70 Ultra Cameo, after conservation. Money very well spent. Needless to say, I'm very happy
  5. The tarnishing on my quarter sovereigns was visible at all angles. I also checked it if was on the surface of the capsule, though it wasn't. I don't open any of my proof capsule's, so wouldn't have known if this developed on the inside after a few months. Also of note is that the NGC Photovision plus (the imaging service used above) takes the photos before any conservation or grading is done, so this isn't conservation work removing the tarnishes (yet!?).
  6. Update! I have a few dozen coins in the process of being graded. I've just had the high resolution images back, which is a step that's done before conservation or grading. I noted in my opening post that some of my quarter sovereigns had developed tarnishing/orange spots, I was fully expecting to see these on the high resolution images, though it seems to have disappeared! The only logical explanation is that the orange discolouring developed ON the royal mint proof coin capsule. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I didn't ever remove the coins from the capsules, so wouldn't have noticed if these marks were actually on the coin vs on the capsule (plus hard to tell on such tiny coins!) I've attached my 4 quarter sovereigns in case anyone is interested (compare with my image from my opening post)
  7. It'll be incredibly interesting to see how this plays out. If us stackers are right and the £ does hyperinflate, will the government try and confiscate gold? Or will they simply allow property sales to go through (through official channels) with gold being offered instead of fiat?
  8. Update! My submissions have updated from "received" to "Scheduled for Grading". Does anyone know if this means they're actually in the US already? I know this knowledge won't return my coins any faster to me, I'm just intrigued whether they made it over the Atlantic already 😄 I was reading the other day that most gold is transported by plane. Even passenger plans can have the 400oz "good delivery bars" in their cargo holds 😲
  9. Update for anyone interested! Fedex re-delivered this afternoon and I can see my submissions start to populate on NGC's website. Phew, I can sleep tonight 😆
  10. Update. So Fedex apparently tried to deliver, but were not able to obtain a signature, so have left. What's strange is they sent a picture of a door with several boxes stacked beside the door. I called NGC, they confirm no fedex delivery and that the door in question is definitely not theirs (69 Southampton Row). Fedex say they'll attend again tomorrow to deliver, though I'm bit anxious considering the value of the package and that they clearly went to the wrong address.... Argh! I've attached an image of the "door" they knocked for signature, hopefully someone can confirm this is indeed not NGC's door!

    Lowest Gold Price

I'd recommend trying to think of gold only in oz terms. Tying it to a £ value will become increasingly irrelevant as the currency continues it's inevitable collapse. The closer we get to the collapse, gold will quickly gain frightening amounts. Whilst a 1oz gold coin being worth £10k may sound amazing, in reality it's still 1oz gold, it's just a sign the currency is about to fall over. The big question is what value gold gets assigned in the new monetary systems that will be setup with the coming collapse of the £, $ etc.
  12. Update on this, I finally got round to completing my NGC submission! I've sent off a small fortune in value via fedex, in multiple shipments, as this was the only courier I could find that would insure a package up to £10k for each package. I'm hoping mine doesn't take 86 days, as this would mean it would be January before I have my precious back! Is it normal to be very excited at the anticipation and expectation of high grades etc? I feel like a child again 😆
  13. Hello All, I'm just about done with packaging my coins, but have the 50p set left. I just wanted to confirm if it's usual to get both coins encapsulated separately? Perhaps this is required, since they may not grade the same? I've seen some "joint" NGC capsules with two coins of a set within a double capsule. Looking around on ebay/coin cabinet auctions I can only see the coins in separate capsules, though wanted to check on here. I've attached an image of my coin set. Thanks!
  14. How do these toned coins grade? Can conservation do anything to correct it? Is it even worth grading such a coin?
  15. Ah that sucks. Did you get it graded with conservation?
  16. The black foam is responsible? Hmm. What would you recommend, would Royal Mint replace it for me? (do they even carry spares?). NGC conservation worth a go?
  17. I'm also surprised, though 2022 was my first year of collecting proof coins, so I don't know if this is normal or not. Thankfully the rest of my coins are as they arrived, absolutely perfect with no discolouration. I'd be very distraught if one of my £5 sovereigns had this issue! I also don't know enough to know if NGC conservation would be worth it, or if it's worth me contacting the Royal Mint.
  18. I'm the original owner, this was received in one of my 5 sovereign sets from Royal Mint upon release, I've not taken them out of their capsules. Also this discolouration was not present upon delivery, I thoroughly inspected each and every coin under magnification. I believe 24k gold is much less likely to tarnish, as it's a purer form. Though this is a sovereign, which is 22k, so has other metals included, which I believe can tarnish over time. Looking at NGC conservation website, they show a gold eagle with similar discolouring, before and after conservation:
  19. Hello, I'm in the process of packaging around 30 gold coins for grading with NGC. I've gone through all my coins and was very surprised to see this quarter sovereign with tarnish marks. None of the other ~30 proof coins have tarnished, thank god. I store all my coins in a damp free environment. They have never been taken out of their capsules. I inspected all my coins (while still inside their capsules) upon delivery (early 2022), and know for sure that this particular coin had no (visible) tarnishing upon delivery. How common is this? Is it still worth getting this graded, will NGC conversation be able to 'save' it? Would Royal Mint replace the coin? I doubt so, after reading https://www.royalmint.com/faqs/collectors/do-commemorative-coins-tarnish-over-time/ Thanks.
  20. Update, decided to bump the "big" coins I'm grading onto their own form and grade them as "Express - World Coins", to fully cover their value. I put their market value to £7500. I've selected "NGS Gold" conservation - any idea if this will be allowed? Since it says max coin value £2500 - all my "big" coins on this submission are worth more than this. Going up to the next tier of conservation increases the cost by an extreme amount.
  21. I've also contacted NGC support for them to check the above for me. I'm just not sure if NGC will automatically name it as the do for "all" 2022 £5 sovereigns they grade. I found this example on coin cabinet. Will NGC took at my form, see the coin is a £5 sovereign, and name my encapsulated coin like the image below? (2022 G.Britain 5 Sov EQ II Platinum Jubilee) . Or do they simply print whatever you write on the form, verbatim?
  22. Thanks for the replies and info provided so far, I really do appreciate it. I'm working through packaging my coins and have started to complete my forms. Please can anyone advise if my name/field descriptions are proper and accurate for the below? Coins in question are as follows: https://www.royalmint.com/shop/limited-editions/the-queens-platinum-jubilee/the-platinum-jubilee-2oz-gold-proof-coin/ https://www.royalmint.com/great-engravers/gothic-crown/gothic-crown-quartered-arms-2oz-gold-proof-coin/ https://www.royalmint.com/great-engravers/gothic-crown/gothic-crown-portrait-2021-2oz-gold-proof-coin/ https://www.royalmint.com/sovereign/2022-five-coin-gold-proof-set/ I originally selected the express tier (up to £7500 per coin) to cover the 2oz golds, but with conservation, the cost was extreme! Many thanks
  23. Premiums are getting ridiculous. Also simply so many "special" coins for Charles already. IMO, 99% will be better off with double the gold in weight through bullion coronation coins instead.
