mine has a tiny ding, but is great apart from that   I'm going to just keep it i think As i can see hundreds of these having large or small problems.
There were afew on ebay looking far worse lol.
Guess it's not a proof coin either at the end of the day,However it becomes a problem when bullion coins turn up in better nick then a £670 coin

I’m not sure why there’s confusion about the release of the SotD.
I shared the RM email that I received - it clearly states Feb 6 at 14:30 GMT - and there’s been nothing to the contrary to indicate otherwise.

Appreciate that. I don't think I'm being overly pedantic if I can see the flaws at 5x magnification, but I've asked the head of CS to give me her honest opinion about whether I'm expecting the impossible. I completely get that the level of detail is on such a small scale that minute errors can occur... but then maybe I don't really understand the whole proof concept. I'll quite happily concede if they (or anyone here) points out why it's acceptable to see those flaws under the same magnification they apply to quality manage the proofs.

I’ve got similar marks on my quarter, @BiigT, sorry you got ‘em too. Wanting my ‘stuff’ to be ‘perfect’ is a flaw I remember having back in my early teens at least. I really need to take a step back (literally and figuratively). That said, I’m also big on holding manufacturers to a decent level of quality, particularly when they set that expectation themselves via the marketing material (on the Proof strikes especially).
I hope you get the result you’re after. All the best.

So less than 12 hours after I emailed RM asking for tracking info (or just 'if' it had shipped yet), it turned up on the doorstep! Capsules still closed and being held in position (which was probably my biggest concern). Had a quick look at the coins under a 10x loupe I have. The quarter definitely has a decent mark (it shimmers, so i don't think it is dust), to the point where once I know where it is, I can see with the naked eye. In hindsight perhaps I should've bought individual coins rather than the 3 coin set, as I more or less tripled the chance that something would not be 'perfect'. At this point I'm glad the product is in hand, and right now I'm not highly motivated to go through the returns rigmarole from Australia. As a result I don't know if I would buy more Proof coins in a hurry. I have a few SOTD BU Sovs, all of which have specs of frosting missing in places, and I suppose I was hoping that I would see the highest-levels-of-craftsmanship from a proof example. I'm new to coins to I'm probably still finding my feet in terms of expectation Vs reality (with lots of help from you guys!), but I'm beginning to wonder if my almost OCD-level obsession for things I own to be blemish-free, means that this might not be the hobby for me haha. Perhaps I should just be looking more at Perth Mint coins, as the whole purchase/shipping/returns process would be much better for me.

    Hi all,
I'm a new collector from Australia in my mid forties. My interest in coins is relatively recent, and my introduction to them came via my dad.
During his working life my dad worked in banking at several branches around New South Wales. Turning 80 next year, he has seen a couple of changes to currency and even bigger changes to banking(don't get him started on online-banking), with the gold sovereign probably being his favourite coin. He talks about the 2 that he owned in his life, about how he (regrettably) cashed one in, and had the other set in a necklace which my older sister wears. He's a huge fan of QE2.
I suppose he has a more relevant back story than I do. I have always enjoyed collecting 'things' since I was little, and my own penchant for nostalgia means that coin collecting is a nice fit and a bug that I'm surprised didn't bite me a lot earlier. I'm a graphic designer by trade so I also like to have an opinion on the design of the coins. On some level though, I am probably just facilitating dad's hobby as much as my own. We're both getting a bit of a kick out of it and I think on a long enough timeline it won't cost as much as some other hobbies can. Put it this way, it's not keeping food off the family table. Yet.
I know they aren't to everyones taste, but I am a bit of a sucker for the idea of the SOTD sovereigns (the concept, more than the Matte BU strike). I also recently ordered the 3 coin set for the Platinum Jubilee, but judging from what I've seen from other recipients, I'm expecting little more than a few coins dancing around freely in a mashed up cardboard box! Ha. I realise the herd has moved on to the Gothic release- but for anyone who continues to follow the beloved Sovereign here's something that you might be interested in:

I did this exercise initially on the 20/11/2021 and last on the 29/11/2021 (results below at the very bottom of this post) and updated today Saturday 11/12/2022, I've repeated it - so you don't have to!

Using the search term '2022 Sovereign' on eBay on Saturday 11/12/2021:

Significantly- there are still surprisingly few,  in terms of the amount of 2022 Sovereign issues for sale (all denominations and sets).  The figure of live sales on eBay has doubled since I last completed the exercise there are currently 83 sales posts (Previously 41) using the search term described above.
5 Coin set- 5 Sales ranging between £5795 through £6995- Average sale price- £6348- NO FURTHER SALES
4 Coin Set- 2 Sales ranging between £3250 through £3750- Average sale price- £3500- NO FURTHER SALES
3 Coin set- 4 further Sales- (previously 7 Sales) ranging between £1249 through £1500- Average sale price on 4 sales is down- £1337   (previous average £1391 on 7 sales)
Sovereign- 17 further Sales- (previously 27) ranging between £675 through £799- Average sale price on 17 sales is down- £737- (previous average £762 27 on 17 sales)
Half Sovereign-  11 further Sales- (previously 13)  ranging between £369 through £424- Average sale price on 11 sales slightly down to - £408 (previously average £416 on 13 sales)
Sovereign/ Half Sovereign combo- 1 Sale at £1300 NO FURTHER SALES

Not a scientific or absolutely accurate view of how the 2022 Sovereign is progressing, but I'm sure those invested in them will be encouraged by this Special Release's performance.

    Previous data 29/11/2021:
5 Coin set- 5 Sales ranging between £5795 through £6995- Average sale price- £6348
4 Coin Set- 2 Sales ranging between £3250 through £3750- Average sale price- £3500
3 Coin set- 7 Sales ranging between £1195 through £1650- Average sale price- £1391
Sovereign- 27 Sales ranging between £699 through £885- Average sale price- £762
Half Sovereign-  13 Sales ranging between £375 through £486- Average sale price- £416
Sovereign/ Half Sovereign combo- 1 Sale at £1300

Same experience here mate. You can (well most of the time) get the tracking data from your RM a/c in transactions (ie each purchase) but then it's up to you to check with Royal Mail. RM could pick up their game and send a follow-up advice with tracking details, but I guess that's too much to hope for.
Till then, I await my RM purchases to arrive unannounced...whenever.

Thanks @jultorsk! Yeah I knew I was going to blow through the 1000 dollars when buying this set. Ah well.
I'll definitely check-in with Customer Service early next week. The wait doesn't bother me so much as the concern of not being around when it comes to the door.
Your Sov in still in transit though? Hopefully you have it in hand very soon. Cheers Mate

They botched the tracking for me too. Had my sov order on closed and dispatched status and no tracking email - I sent a message to their customer service and a couple days later they sent the tracking# in reply; the parcel was long on the way already. Try customer.sevices@royalmint.com
I hope yours is not stuck in Customs as it exceeds $1000.

A sad hobby of mine is to trawl the pawn shops to see if I can find a key date sovereign in jewellery not hit the jackpot yet.  I bought a top quality proof 2014 sov being sold off as bullion.  Also bought a 1906 M  labeled as a "victorian sovereign" you would have thought the portrait of Edward 7th would have given them a clue.  My search continues.........

Coins arrived abroad after a long journey that started almost two weeks ago with a three night stay at customs included.
No cushioning inside the box nor taping, as I had asked for many times by email but they arrived safely and all in their capsules with the lids on. One capsule had started to rise up diagonally out of its hole but stayed in ultimately.
They did wrap the second outer box up with brown paper before putting all that into its final outer box. The other outer box was bulked out with a large air bubble cushion.
All coins look clean and mark free upon inspection, so the RM get a pat on the back from me, despite not taping the capsules into their hole as I had requested.

actual coin box, then the RM black box, then the RM picture box, then a cardboard box, then padding with a final outer cardboard box.

I was on RM site for half8, patiently waited, did it all by the book. At 9am I was placed circa 1600 in the queue.
I wanted the 5oz silver but would have been happy with the 2oz.
By 9:30 it was obvious I wasn't going to get the 5oz, but I stayed on for the 2oz. I was still around 400 in the queue when people started to say it was a sell out.
    Not my day for silver.
I did treat myself to a 1984 sov (birth year). So all things considered, I'll go to bed happy.
Let's be honest, the fact we are all in the position to even contemplate spending these kinds of sums on coins, means we must doing something right!
Well done to the lucky ones today. I'll look forward to your photos!
