Hi @katyc  You're not alone, lots of others (including me) did exactly the same thing before discovering the forum.  Going forward I'll now only consider gold rather than silver. With what I spent on premiums and vat buying silver as a newbie before joining the forum I could probably have had at least a couple of sovereigns more than I have..never mind, we live and learn.
I suggest watching Mike Maloney's "Hidden secrets of money" series on youtube.  There are 9 episodes which explain the economics of currency and pms very well. It's a fascinating watch and a real eye opener although I admit I skipped the episode about crypto.
Why sovereigns?   Because they are lauded as "the worlds favourite coin" and very easy to move if you need to resell.
I wonder what you call a secure location..?   You could always get a safe...  
Most people on here in fact own no precious metals at all and boating accidents are very common!

Recently put this collection of 'nearly' all the Sovereign obverse/portraits since 1817 on 'Today I want to show.....' and thought it worth repeating on this topic.  Obviously this can be expanded to include all the mints/specials/date-runs etc Anything more ambitious is likely to be 'Mission Impossible!' Early sovereigns are going to be more expensive now, but this group is still achievable in the short to medium term (finance permitting) It may take a few years - but hey, whats the rush?! The 1997 was my very first sovereign.🤗

I have a mate like this too, he would be better off just giving me a grand per month and when he wants it back I’ll give him £800 for every £1000 he gave me, a better return than silver. 

I am happy to report that two very lucky people are now the owners of these two spare coins at issue price. 
In addition, a few members honour showing through as I had put an honesty clause in the sales post that only those without any of these coins should buy them and NOT to instantly flip for profit. 
I am an eternal optimist and it's nice to see such honour shining through on this forum.
I enjoyed this good deed, I feel like I might do this more often with Royal Mint releases.

Some of you may recall an incredibly generous gift from @Rll1288 Who sold me his Henry at mint issue price when I had a bad one delivered from the mint. 
So I am paying this generosity forward by giving @Rll1288 one of these at issue price and also to one other lucky forum member. 
That other member has been selected already based on the level of annoyance I sensed when they shared their disappointment in this thread on release day.

You missed the "my coins disappeared from my basket whilst I was trying to pay" moan - yep, both my 2oz and 5oz silvers gone whilst I was jumping through the new security confirmation hoops set up by my blinking bank. Very annoying especially as I was right at the front of the queue

Yep, that horrible feeling when it says processing payment just to take you back to the proceed to payment page in your basket. It's so shoddy, as if they don't have enough money to invest in a proper checkout system that reserves coins in your basket and allows you a bit of time to checkout! Along with all the ongoing QC issues I'm seriously considering jacking in buying anything from RM

Oh Oh I have one too, when checkout takes you back to the basket page and you keep checking out not realising its charging your credit card each time till it's maxed out and you end up with charges on your card that dont drop for 5 days and still no coins, had that for the Henry release

What I find surprising or maybe not because it’s RM afterall is that when these were originally released I missed out by the time I got in after the long queue. I called RM and was told they had a waiting list, the offered to put me on it whilst they were ‘cancelling’ parts of others orders who had purchased too many of the limit per person. I was told I was 19 on the reservation list.
I never got a call and then now they’re available again two months later. Great customer service. 🙄

I think some of the criticism of the first 2 is a bit harsh.
The statues that the coins are portraying are very odd looking, cartoonish and unrealistic. So isnt that what we are getting on the coins?

Proof coins are the best addiction and mental illnes i ever had. And i already had my experiences in pre-coin life🤣
