RM have now issued embargo information so I am not allowed to say much, but the mintages are low, and release is a few weeks away yet.

The 2oz gold is likely to be £5305 or thereabouts based on the latest 2oz gold coins they’ve released.

The only “problem” is the coin is going to be very similar to the 2017 £5 Proof and £5 BU (of which the Reverse was Proof-like).
The exception of course will be the 2oz weight, the 99.99c gold, and the edge lettering.
Really does come down to mintage.

I am pretty confident this is the next coin in the great engravers series. It looks to be based on the Crown with edge inscription relating to 2nd year of Charles III reign.
The gold coins are 999.9 gold and the big givaway is that there is no gold 1 ounce version 👍

Sexy new coin but not sure what it really is.

    PROCLAMATION:
    For the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription “· CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 10 POUNDS ·” and the date of the year,
and for the reverse a depiction of St George, armed, sitting on horseback, attacking a dragon with a sword, and a broken spear upon the ground with the inscription “HONI · SOIT · QUI · MAL · Y · PENSE”. The coin shall have a plain edge and in excuse letters the inscription “DECUS ET TUTAMEN · ANNO REGNI II ·”.’
    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/4503115

    DENOMINATIONS:
    - Gold 5kg, 2kg, 1kg, 5oz, 2oz
    - Silver 1kg, 5oz, 2oz and 10oz piedfort

    MY COMMENTS:
Can’t be a Sovereign because of the specification of the denomination in the coins, their weights, and the variations in metal.
Also not sure if it is part of the Great Engravers series, because William Wyon’s St. George and the Dragon does not have the garter inscription (the circumscription is TREU UND FEST), nor does it have the edge inscription, as far as I know. The Garter design is by Benedetto Pistrucci (more below).
Finally, ANNO REGNI II means the Second Year of the Monarch’s Reign, meaning (to be very literal) September 2023 to August 2024 of King Charles’ reign.
Benedetto Pistrucci’s 1820 £2 pattern Sovereign does have an edge inscription of DECUS ET TUTAMEN • ANNO REGNI LX which was the 60th year of the Reign of King George III in 1820; however to complicate matters, this pattern coin does NOT have the Garter inscription. The 1819/19 Crown by Benedetto Pistrucci does have both the Garter and edge inscriptions.
So, my deduction is perhaps that this coin does after all continue the Great Engravers series (or maybe the Royal Mint finally caught on to my idea and is doing a series of St. George and the Dragon designs!), and they’ve combined the £1 Sovereign’s Garter design with the edge inscription from the £2 Sovereign to come up with a representative sample of Benedetto Pistrucci’s work.

I also had a call from my RM account manager a little earlier and they said that they had seen the coin and it looks fantastic! I said to her that she should be in sales! 🤣
She was unable to tell me anything about the mintages or in fact anything at all other than what we know already. She has asked me what I would like to order and I have said that I definitely want the 2oz silver set and possibly the 5oz silver set.
I said to her that it is so hard deciding as I don’t know the mintages and I haven’t seen photos of the actual RM design. She said that it will sell out within minutes and I needed to let her know today.

She  wasn’t even allowed to let me know the pricing. I find it so strange that they want you to commit to buying but without you knowing how much you are spending. It is like writing a blank cheque!
Also, they now take the money straight away for all purchases even though the coins aren’t available yet. Not a bad business model, especially with rising interest rates!
I have a strange feeling that this one could be a long term winner. If the mintages are lower and it is only purchased by true collectors then there won’t be many available to buy on the secondary market which will drive up prices. Saying that I am not brave enough to buy the gold 2oz set! 🤣 I don’t have that sort of money to risk at the moment especially when like others I only really like the design of only one of the two coins.

My understanding is that the mintage figures are going to be very low. Tomorrow should be interesting!

After the stress with the gothics and the uneven mintages (at least on the 2oz silver) I think the set is the right call. I completely understand the one off cost is annoying. As I will be only going for the 2oz silver, I will just able to manage.
As I have said previously I would love them reduce the mintages, even if that means I may not get any.
    This series needs saving....

The increasing mintages of the GE series has always been the major issue for me.
Beautiful coins which are hard to get was the biggest selling point in my view. Isn't that the reason why the originals are so admired ?
I agree this one doesn't have the eye appeal of the others. But bump the mintages down and it may make it a success from a collectors perspective.
The RM seemed to prioritise short term profit by increasing the mintages, which long term for this series is probably going to hurt them.
They should be bold and go back to 3k mintage.
I am personally undecided whether to get this one, without it being two coins also adds additional stress.
    I probably will though...

    I will be returning it.
My technical term will be have your coin back and give me a refund please.
I have all if the British Monarchs coins so far (a few of some).
Will be putting them on flebay or similar.
I just don't have the will to go through this with the rest of them. I might pick up a select few, but that's out trying to collect them all
