Aside from not checking the authenticity of coins I've seen several auction houses remove proof sovereigns from their capsules so they can take photographs of them, in the process destroying their value by leaving them marked.
The term 'proof sovereign' seems to get used to describe bullion sovereigns quite regularly too.

Fair enough. Each to their own. It doesn't affect the coin in any way and the new owner can always get it corrected if they wanted to.

Latest batch of coins back from grading (thanks once again Louise - Coins of the Realm).  Particularly pleased with the results on the Prince George 5th Birthday SOTD x 2.  A rare coin this one and nice to have two with a top grade.
 
 

@Shinus73 Running this monthly auction and finding those customers who are willing to put their coins up without some type of reserve is extremely difficult. We do get collections submitted where we are given the reigns to sell and list at the prices we believe are fair, but as you can appreciate it's not easy to provide that month in month out. 
We really do appreciate everyone who takes the time to look and bid though and we will keep striving to get the bargains in there. 😜👍 Hopefully you'll see more of these as we grow. 
 

FWIW I’ve enjoyed your auctions thus far.  Have purchased a few bits including a couple of special years in your latest auction on Wednesday last. I love the 0% buyers premium and really do think it sets you apart from other auctions. Didn’t like paying postage twice for items bought in the same auction but maybe they’re not sent together? Sellers want assurances, buyers want bargains. Can’t please everyone all of the time so for now, I enjoy what you’ve put together and where the pricing is right (for me) I’ll keep bidding. I disagree.  
Brockage errors happen not only on gold and silver coins, but standard circulation coins.  Even going back to the times of Victoria.  They are surprising common in circulation coins (because of the volume).
Errors happen - and on the forum we have seen die alignment errors identified by and sold by an individual (albeit via an intermediary). Plus other errors one of which I purchased.
I am not sure the illuminati exist outside of conspiracy theories, and there is an open market to buy rarities if you don’t find one in an order.

Coincidentally I nearly got a sovereign for free today at work. some old Lady, nevermind.....

Just got done with speaking to them on the phone and they have reversed their decision to block my account from ATS. She said she couldn’t go into more details on why it was blocked in the first place but something to do with their scam prevention measures but after looking into it further she admitted that a “error had been made” and that they’re going to overturn it.
 
Still a bit annoyed that they couldn’t overturn it the first time I phoned them up and told them that it was a legitimate site and I was happy to go ahead with the payment but just relived that it’s finally been resolved.

Is that the short tail variety? 

I didn’t respond as some kind of Chards fanboy- I rarely buy from Chards, but I do know this, as dealers go, there isn’t many surpass their guides and knowledge base- particularly their ‘old site’, which @LawrenceChardused to maintain (I’m not sure if all that content has been migrated over?). 

I haven’t a clue what mark-up the average large bullion dealer makes on say, £2k’s worth of bullion Sovereigns- but I’m guessing the margins are tight, and I guess Chards have thought long and hard of their business model, and decide on payments methods accordingly.
You’re a winner, you saved by purchasing elsewhere and gained the knowledge they offered you for free. 

Maybe having gained all this knowledge and having being able spend ‘days reading the amazing guides’ on the Chards website-  you might well have uncovered one of the reasons Chards doesn’t take credit cards- likely due to this customer service you cite, and they provide.
Maintaining and servicing a comprehensive website must cost Chards a fair bit of time, effort and therefore, money.
It sounds like you have gained much more than a 1% discount from Chards already- without spending with them- you have gained a lot of knowledge which you will prosper from for years to come- that they supplied to you, free of charge.  

Yes it is  strange that a business putting cash into an account has to pay for that privilege. Banks poor things struggling to make a bob or two🙄
