My experience of the RM Special Delivery Service (to me) has been very good no issues ever. This is down to an excellent postman in part.
When I send anything of value, I usually package up a slat square package and write “Wedding Photos - Please don’t bend” with a smiley face below. Just a small way to reduce your mail being a target.
Similarly in hotel rooms in less safe part of the world, I leave a “Do not Disturb” sign on the door and leave the TV on loud.

Shouldn't have to do it but it's better to pay the tenner extra for a courier like Fedex, they seem to get far fewer losses. Maybe it's due to putting the custom docs in a separate envelope on the side or under the address label in the plastic window. Not visible to casual inspection.

I’m sorry to hear that has happened, some thieving bastard is probably creating quite a stack, let’s hope he/she or they get found out and sacked!

Crabby reacted to Bimetallic in Precious metal testing
Nothing I know of retails for under £300. The Fisch is good, as Mr. Chard mentioned. It's not a machine per se, but rather an inert measuring tool that verifies the size, shape, and weight of popular coins. It has depressions and slots in which to place the coin to verify its dimensions, and a carefully designed platform to set the coin and test its weight. The combination of precise dimensions and weight provides a high confidence of authenticity – most fakes won't pass.
They go for about $200. The caveats are that they're designed for a specific set of popular coins due to the need for exact precision with the dimensions. There are several different Fisch models, some for silver coins, some for gold coins. Each model covers a specified handful of coins. A popular model in North America is the one that covers both Eagles and Maples.
The weight test is discrete and binary. The Fisch is designed like a seesaw or pendulum scale, where when you place a coin weighing exactly one Troy ounce on the marked area, the Fisch balances or something, while any deviation from that target weight will yield a failing result. There might be Fisches for 10 oz bars, but I haven't checked.
There's also a competing device costing a bit less. I forget the name, but it's generic sounding like "The Silver Coin Tester" or similar. It's essentially identical to the Fisch in its approach, with the slots and the carefully calibrated balancing for the target weight.

Machines?
Possibly not, or at least not anything with any great degree of accuracy and ease of use.
Equipment?
Yes:
1) A neodymium magnet would cost a few pounds. Precious metals are not ferro-magnetic, and neither are most of their alloys.
2) Scales. Reasonable electronic balances now cost under £10.
3) Measuring devices. A ruler would cost very little, or a caliper gauge would be more accurate, and cost about £10.
4) A pack of acids, or a precious metal testing kit, would cost about £30 + or -, from a jewellers' supplier.
5) You could do your own cupelation by buying some cupels (£1+-), a blowtorch (£10+-), or a furnace (from $125 on Alibaba).
6) "Ping" test ap for mobile phone (free). Limited results.
7) Fisch, or similar, gauge, from $200.
Eight) (TSF converts 8 followed by a right bracket to an emoji). A drill. Most people probably already own one. Practical, reliable, but somewhat destructive.
9) Probably a whole lot more I have missed out.

Every purchase is exciting. If it stops being exciting then I'll stop buying it. Doesn't matter if its 5 quid or 500 quids worth, it's just the same. You choose it, buy it, wait for it and then enjoy it. I'm expecting a 2oz Scottsdale stacker today - its not fancy or special, but I've wanted one for ages and it's coming today - I'm excited...😁

From the second I press order confirm button, the wait of arrival is a buzz...on a few occasions I get the dreaded sorry we are experiencing a delay with your stock items, email. Not nice... The buying from overseas is worst.. from the onset you just know it's going to be touching three weeks before delivery. That feeling is only beaten by pre-order items. There the anxiety really kicks in... The buzz of the delivery thought is very much worth it...the best deliveries are the meaningful ones/collectors items or gifts. But everyone put a smile on my face that lasts longer than when I buy most other things in life.
On a similar point. I've been buying physical stored Au/Ag in digital form with Kinesis.money and even though it's precious metals, I don't get that same feelings/buzz of the delivery format. 🤔

Even better when Martin (ST) sends a free magnet with his orders. I should have enough to attract a chick or 2...

We're starting to sound like addicts scoring a hit!
Yes, always great when an order arrives, especially if it's a weighty piece of silver.
Better still for me, is if I buy a pile of pre-20 silver coins on weight without knowing exactly what's in it or a mix of silver/non silver coins and I have to go on a treasure hunt when I open them. Love it. But then I still get excited when going out hunting for conkers in the autumn. I guess I'm just either a big kid or a treasure hunter... Or both.
