Victorian sovreigns.... I would suggest the early ones but hard to get in good condition unless you pay the premiums for an AU58 or MS62/63 Which are hard to get...the 1887 50 year Jubilee is a nice one to go for..depending on the condition... any Shield backs as they are mainly preferred over BP's George and the Dragon.

Melbourne mint sovreigns are my fave but you can also aquire from the Sydney and Perth mint, lower mintages mostly in Vicki's reign but command a higher price....Edward VII from the Canadian mint are sort after..especially the 1913 Ottawa mint as this is a very low mintage..Also the 1918 India mint sov is a nice one to collect..about 1,235.000 were minted in Bombay as the RM chose to mint in India as the Germans in WW1 were sinking our ships in the channel and the Gold we were importing from the SA Mint was being lost at sea so The RM redirected the route of their bullion east via India...moved most of their minting equipment across land and started minting coins there as it was more safer than importing/ exporting by sea...
Just a little info but do your research and you will soon discover what sovreigns are more collectable than others....but at the end of the day it's down to Condition, condition condition 👍

Always buy what "YOU" like and at the cheapest premium....Good rule of thumb!

    Hi
I love and collect Victorian sovs. On a whim I purchased a 1841 1/2 penny and now find myself getting a bit hooked.
I liked the detail and patina on this, would like some advice if you collect Victorian pennies! I've seen some on ebay which I don't like to use going for high prices, so would like some kind of idea what to pay for them in good very good or unc condition.
    Appreciate any advice
Photo of the one I've just purchased.
Forgot to say has a serif error on the 'E' in DEI.

Always appreciate others opinions but when you look at the mintages of their coins don't you think that we might be overlooking something....The majority of mints around the world  produce a higher mintage production of their coins....with the exception of La casa de moneda de Mexico! In years to come don't you think these low mintage coins from the Ram and Perth mints are going to be sought after...not just because of their low mintages but their exceptional service and quality of their silver and gold..yes the premiums are higher than most mints and that does put alot of stackers and collectors off..more so stackers because of the high premiums......but with an average of 10,000,25,000 coins on their editions world wide...perhaps we are missing the fact that these bullion coins are sleepers and  when we look back in 10 years time,,we might just wish that we had purchased more??? Just my theory!

CollectorNo1 got a reaction from SilverStorm in Do you wear cotton gloves? 🧤
Always....oils,dirt,sweat are always on your fingers..I was told by a very well known coin dealer..no matter what coin you handle..Wear cotton gloves..never handle coins with bear hands/fingers if you want to keep your coins in the condition you buy them. Otherwise contamination from your fingers will eventually have negative consequences on your coins over the months or years....now whether that is fact or not...I always wear cotton gloves when handling coins.... it doesn't cost much for a pair of gloves and to be on the safe side....what have you got to lose with extra protection...Something I've always done..

I personally take the view when a new release comes out from the RM  and I'm lucky to get it in my cart after a WAIT,Get to the checkout stage and get a confirmation of purchase...am happy and don't care how long it takes to receive my purchase...know point getting stressed, annoyed that I havnt recd it in the first week..when it comes it comes...that's the time to get a little stressed opening the box and praying it's going to be in the condition we expect without any problems.... the 6th December when the Gothic Crown is released (if that's the official date) we will all be going through the same stress as we have with the 2022 platinum jubilee gold sovereign coins sets etc....and so the threads/comments/disappointment will start all over again....my advice is...log on,hopefully you will be lucky to get what you want and relax until it arrives..hopefully a problem free coin..if not satisfied, return and get a new coin or refund....but we all know buying any Bullion or proof is a bit of a gamble from the RM...

Some of us will be lucky and some not with the condition...it just a waiting game and I trust we will all be satisfied with our purchases..be a nice change for all of us who are lucky enough to obtain our coins from them to be in A1 condition....but don't hold your breath 😀 😊 😉 ☺ 🙂
