I enjoy the old British silver. A couple of half crowns should do the trick. Circulated coins, no danger of damage. Won’t break the bank even if you loose them. Saying that, I have carried a silver Britannia with me since 2015 in a leather pouch. I’ve dropped it on the hard floor a number of times, so it has a number of dinks in it. It was the first Britannia I removed from the first tube I bought from the Royal Mint; so has that sentimental value to it.

Hey @Delphis, that good going buddy. Practice makes perfect (or as close to perfect)  I've been thinking of pouring my own for years now. Haven’t plucked up the courage to make a start. You have, and you’re well on your way. Keep it up. Look forward to your new designs.

This is really unacceptable. The Royal Mint is a risk. I feel it's better to wait and buy on the secondary market at premium than buy directly from the RM.

Nope. I haven’t either conserved or graded. It’s still raw in the original capsule.
I too got mine direct from the RM and never opened the capsule or stored it any differently from other coins.

Copper should not tarnish so quickly. Unless it’s encouraged to, via some other substance. The coin was obviously contaminated at source. Time has made it show.

If anyone can make it happen, the Royal Mint can.

Hi Timberwolf, I didn’t think gold could tarnish like that (referring to the pic). It looks as though it may have had something spilt on it, and it’s become visible over time.

I'm the original owner, this was received in one of my 5 sovereign sets from Royal Mint upon release, I've not taken them out of their capsules. Also this discolouration was not present upon delivery, I thoroughly inspected each and every coin under magnification.
I believe 24k gold is much less likely to tarnish, as it's a purer form. Though this is a sovereign, which is 22k, so has other metals included, which I believe can tarnish over time.
Looking at NGC conservation website, they show a gold eagle with similar discolouring, before and after conservation:

    Hey Folks,
another update for those interested (if any 😂)
This morning I have been trying to hit the 1 ozt pour size consistently, done a couple of new designs, i like the way they came out, look pretty much the same on the front but all unique on the back and in shape, but all weight 1 ozt, great fun doing it, had lots of remelts, but the more i did the more the weight got right! just thinking up some new designs to play with, here is this morning, "1 ozt Sun Stacker Piece" and "1 ozt Skull Stacker Piece" with the deco ladies now in the 1 ozt weight.

Wow your pouring is really coming on. These pieces look like they would have more mass appeal. I like the finish you have achieved. 👍

Really like these. Like others have said, it is great to learn about these things. I have watched @BackyardBullion and @LiquidMetalsUK on youtube etc. and would recommend that you reach out to them as there is a pouring community that seems to be very inclusive.
Next step is to register a mark and get these to the assay office! Though that may be something you do not want to do now, it is a future goal perhaps! Cheers for sharing. Really, really good to see and learn.

I love these - especially the skull & crossbones (I'm a sucker for piratey-themed silver)!
They're very clean imprints for open sand casts, did they come out like that, or have you had to clean them up after pouring them?

Hey Bigmarc! you can do it that way which is the most easiest way of doing it and accurate, but you need to fully tip up the crucible you are melting it in which means you get debris of graphite and other bits of dross, i like to over fill and then pour by eye so you get a more pure result with less clean up work, as if you do you just go 1oz then have heavy graphite pollution when you clean it off you could come under the 1oz weight, very much a work in progress for me to determine the best way of doing things, i know some pourers do over pours like these others do it measure out melts for it.
    cheers
    Matt

@StackemHighI like the sound old circulated silver makes. So more recently my pocket coin has changed to pocket coins, 3 half crown and 4 florins. I play with them when I have nothing better to do, lol. Very satisfying. No fear of damaging them, so no hesitation in messing about with them either. Have fun.

Bought a crown a little while ago to have as a pocket coin. Decent size (pic for comparison). Every day i take it to work, i have a bad day. Wondering if its had a heeby jeeby spell put on it in its early days....
I leave it at home now!

Most people don't think like this. There is Corrie on the telly tonight. Abi is planning to do a runner abroad with her son but Kevin is plucking up courage to tell her he still loves her. This is important stuff.
Most people aren't thinking about a nuclear conflagration. If we are honest very few people are. It never enters their heads and if it does it is an abstract concept. It is mushroom clouds on a 1950's film clip. It is doubtful that most of those clips are genuine. Large TNT dumps going off and cardboard model simulations. But anyway - whatever members here think doesn't matter. It won't make a jot of difference. So what they say doesn't matter. It is of zero importance - so forget it. Would you try to convince the stray dog at the end of the street and get infuriated when it just barked back at you? You would be unhinged if you did.

    @DrKarlMoneys

Well unfortunately there are some members who read the control media and believe it, there are potentially some agents - 77th Brigade types perhaps - some ex-forces who have spent a lifetime subjected to the establishment propaganda.
Whatever they are or aren't they are posting some frightful balderdash.
I'd like to see Putin try to introduce a gold back currency when he's had most of his gold reserves seized. I expect he knew there would be economic sanctions and was counting on that to help get him out of a hole but it's failed miserably.
Russian foreign currency reserves were stolen but no gold. The gold is in Russia. Russia is buying all the gold on offer. It is the biggest open buy order in history. Russian gold reserves are massive and growing fast.
Think for a minute how big Russia is - think of all the mines - think the gold held in Russia from the Tsar's time is still there. The Tsar was the richest guy on the planet.
Money is flooding into Russia. Countries are still buying Russian oil and gas - they are still buying other commodities except the prices are much higher than they were. So the sanctions aren't hurting the flow of funds into Russia. The RUB is strong. The GDP is strong. Debt is low. The Trade Balance is massively positive. Asia is trading with Russia just like before.
The West is in the hole, a hole the cretins in charge have dug. If you reversed the post it would actually make sense. Something like this don't you think.
I'd like to see Putin try to introduce a gold back currency now his gold reserves are even more massive than before. I expect he knew there would be economic sanctions and so he made sure all the gold was safe. That's why he's banned exports of gold and all the domestically produced gold is being hoovered up by the Russian Central Bank. Pity the West has no gold to get them out of a hole they dug themselves. They are failing miserably.
