As i mentioned earlier today in another thread (@NRSovereign, @MickB), its often customary (indian heritage) to receive gold (jewellry and coins) during weddings or birth of children.
Some of the gold received is often in the style of sovereign coins but are not actually real sovereigns, just gold copies. The reason is people just buy for the gold weight, they dont know or care that it is in the form of a sovereign look.
Here is a selection of such coins we have received as gifts. They have been verified as real gold by a jeweller friend of ours. Also ive put a photo of a Full Arabic guinea we received for your interest.

Ok, so I didn't just receive this, but I can't help showing it off considering the latest posts.
It's one of the few things I ever bought for the design rather than the gold content - though I also absolutely love that it's got exactly 15g of gold in it and says so in plain English (well, Spanish) almost like it's a copper capsule to protect the gold.
For me, a non-collector, there are only two superior coins. Mexican 50 Pesos and Peruvian 100 Soles de Oro.

Okay, that pisses me off. I guess it's better than no protection at all, but putting - what, £2,000 retail - of platinum coins into a box and not sealing the bags and not padding the box.. That's a horrible lack of attention. They're just not competent to handle coins. I mean really, this is what they do for a LIVING. How can they not know how to properly package valuable coins? What the bloody hell are they doing?
I was annoyed at the little mark on my 10 ounce silver coin, which devalued it probably £30 - £40. Thank fudge I didn't buy a gold or platinum coin from them. Stuff that, I am not using Goldsilver.be again.
 

Probably not everyone's cup of tea but here goes.

 

If the government ever wanted to get their hands on your gold, there are much easier ways of going about it than kicking down doors at 6 a.m. to ransack a house because of some receipt from HGM a decade ago.
Why go to all that difficulty and expense when you could make the sale of gold illegal... unless the buyer is the government. That'd hoover most of it up. Sure you could 'stick it to the man' by burying your stash in the woods, but you nor your kids would ever be able to realise its value unless you sold it on a gold black market. Then the government could go after the black market instead. That'd be more effective than chasing the ghosts of some old receipt, less messy than interrogation and a hell of a lot cheaper than locking people up.
That's the way I'd do it. 😈

Also, just for fun, received these five 2020 Niue 1 oz Silver $2 Star Wars: Mandalorian Mythosaur Coins. With the seemingly ongoing destruction of the Star Wars franchise with the latest trilogy release following up from the prequels to the original trilogy, they finally got a good storyline right with the newest series, The Mandalorian.
