I purchased this 2021 Britannia gold coin from a reputable dealer in London this week. There seems to be a dull sound from the ping, therefore I measured up the coin to double and triple check things out. These are the results averaged over three reasonably careful measurements as best I can do from home.
First are the reference specifications found on the web.
2021 Gold Britannia, 1oz 99.99% fine:
Weight = 31.21 g
Diameter = 32.69 mm
Thickness = Best I could find is 2.8 mm. I look lots of places and ?
Specific gravity = 19.32
My Measurements:
Weight = 31.22 g
Diameter = 32.69 mm
Thickness = 2.41 mm
Specific gravity = 19.64
And for the ping test here is a video: https://youtu.be/q-zie5h7vKg
You can see in the video that a Krugerrand sounds pretty sweet. However, the Britannia is sorta tinny. The security features look ok. I don't think I have a fake coin but the odd sound does spook me a little. My guess is the security micro ridges are dampening the sound. Thoughts?
