  1. I received these two coins last week, but I thought I would save them until today – the Queen’s 95th Birthday which is what they are commemorating. Issued under the authority of Alderney, one is a “sovereign” and the other is an eighth of a “sovereign”. I really like the designs on these coins which are by Jody Clark (both sides). The other nice thing is that they are 24 carat gold (but they do only weigh 7.34g and 0.917g respectively).

    MS Society Auctions

Good morning all Due to the unbelievable support I have had for my auction in raising much needed funds to the MS society I have decided to make a post to keep u all updated. I have had so many private donations of cash and also more prizes donated I will be running a third auction next week This Friday I will be donating for the first 2 auctions. I will use this thread as an update rather than the auctions themselves just to try and keep everything in one place I just want to say both myself and my wife have been blown away my how kind and supportive and generous people have been especially when we all have problems on the current climate

  14. Here are photos of a fake RM gold bar we detected recently: Comparison of genuine versus fake, both shot through plastic film: ... and... Our Niton test report on the fake: The weird results are not entirely surprising, given that we tested them through the plastic film. The important clue is "GPP" which I circled, indicating Gold Plating Probable. I did not bother to repeat the tests, or photos, with the bar taken out of the certificate packaging, as I had already seen enough. This is a Niton test result of a different RM 5 gram bar, which I was happy to conclude was genuine: Note "GPND" = Gold Plating Not Detected. Naturally, we did not just rely on this one single piece of evidence, but also a detailed visual inspection, and we have carried out a number of other tests on bars and coins through different types and brands or holders, thus building up a "library" of examples. I uploaded the following photo of a genuine example in error, but have left it rather than delete it.

  23. I would agree @SilverMike the 1921 in nice condition is a good year to own and highly sought after- careful @Stacktastic you don’t get the México bug 😂 The Gold 20 Pesos was issued 1917 through to 1921 and Restrikes were all dated 1959. This book is a great resource for Mexican coinage:

  25. Hi - Yes this has been covered lots of times before - but no harm in asking - this is a friendly forum! Depends on condition and rarity basically but bullion Sovs are often around the premiums you have stated (on the forum, a little more from dealers). You can get a feel from auctions and the rarity in Marsh and use this to very roughly determine premium. Personally..... I don't get too hung up about the margin, but purchase coins I like I don't buy Sovereigns that are not in really good condition. AUNC is about as low as I will go I don't buy Sovereigns graded (just my personal preference) I do look for interesting and low mintage Sovereigns But each to their own! Best Dicker

  30. Coin Connection sent an email out last week saying the SOTD release had been put back to 12th June (Queen's official birthday). Maybe contact CC directly and see if they will have any available, because in the email they were giving customers the chance to cancel their orders.

  33. Snap although they sent me a 1921 Peso instead. Is this worth more - not a lot of info out there! I like the fact its exactly 100 years old & invented to curb inflation - rather fitting I would say! I went a bit 'loco in Acapulco' this month on the Mexico stuff & also got 2 liberates and a 5oz calendar. 😛 Below also from @Jamesd

  36. Apologies for the down time earlier. There seemed to be multiple back end issues, which caused some errors on the forum. All of which were not showing error logs, so it was difficult to locate. The errors included but where not limited to; a backup of the forum upload files which was saved on the same drive had caused that drive to become full and subsequently the forum was inaccessible as it had ran out of space. This is despite the massive storage space that we have. We have now deleted those extra unnecessary files, as we have actual back up files on other hard drives on the sever. There is currently plenty of space, but we will be upgrading the storage space at some point to prevent any future outage. There may therefore be some downtime sometime in the near future when we upgrade the space on the drives. If you currently use the forum for free, please consider upgrading to Premium Membership as this helps a lot with maintenance costs of the forum. Thank you to those who choose to use TSF as a Premium Member and who help to maintain the forum. There is also a caching based issue, which we are working on. So there may be some sporadic downtime later as we are trying to re-enable a different caching method. Once again, sorry for the downtime earlier and glad that we should now be back up and running as usual

  44. I adore the proof versions but having sold a significant quantity I was disappointed to find they were not fetching anything like the premiums I paid and I ended up selling at very close to spot. If you like the proofs, as I do, they stand out BUT don't be fooled into believing they are worth more. Regular bullion sovereigns can be bought for 5% or less above spot price and a really good price would be to find decent coins at 3% over spot. Pretty much all the dealers today markup anything that is 100 years old and like to double the price if the coin has a shield reverse. When I bought all my shields they were at standard price so it's all about catching the moment but with the interest and spread of people buying PMs today compared to say 10 years ago, people are willing to pay more for some stuff.

  46. Extremely Rare Pamp Suisse 1980’s bank series bars. These came in sizes of 1 oz & 5g, These are extremely scarce & have become rarer over the years.... Almost impossible to find the 5g variations let alone them still being mint sealed. USA DOLLAR NOTE - £40 ITALIAN LIRA NOTE - £40 Bars weight 5g each of .999 silver, they have beautiful natural patina & the plastic has started to crack as pictured. + P&P, Bank Transfer Please. I would advise Special Delivery as that’s the only option that covers bullion.

  48. Two nice Sovereigns received today from @SVcollector, a first year for George IV 1821 Laurette Head and a first year George IV Bare Head 1825. Thanks Chris 😃 And a nice contemporary 1821 Sovereign weight to compare them with 😂 Also received a lovely MS62 first year Victoria Jubilee Sovereign and a 1998 first year 4th IRB Elizabeth II Portrait. Both from the @CoinsOfTheRealmAuctions- I forgot to claim my Platinum Membership discount- maybe Louise you could credit my account 🤔 These four Sovereigns are now struck off my list in my quest for a x18 Modern Sovereign Change of Portrait ’Type Set’ from 1817 to present day 😬 Just four to go- can anyone help with: 1831 William IV; 1838 Victoria, 2015 Jody Clark Proof and 2016 Proof- please get in touch 😃
